QB Lawrence throwing again

QB Lawrence throwing again; getting hitched … The NFL Network is reporting that Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence, who will be the first player selected at the 2021 draft when the actual picking gets underway on April 29th, has been throwing for the past couple of weeks. Lawrence underwent surgery on his non-throwing shoulder in mid-February and while he… Read More »

Medical testing on tap for top prospects

Medical testing on tap for top prospects … Nothing formal has been announced but we believe that this is the weekend that 150 or so of the top prospects for the 2021 draft will be asked to go to Indianapolis for final medical tests before the draft. It is also believed that each individual NFL team will be… Read More »

Trade up interest in TE Pitts

Trade up interest in TE Pitts … While most of the focus on the top ten of the 2021 draft, now just 22 days away has been on the QBs, there is a bit of a buzz around the league that there could be potentially some teams interested in moving up to acquire Florida TE Kyle Pitts. As… Read More »

Projection tweaked

Projection tweaked … We weren’t really planning on it, but with all the developments over the past week or so we figured we had to update our current first-round projection.

49ers brain trust at odds over QB pick?

49ers brain trust at odds over QB pick? … Interesting report in the local paper in San Francisco over the weekend suggesting that there is some disagreement between 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and the rest of the personnel over which QB to select with the 3rd pick overall at the 2021 draft. According to the report, Shanahan… Read More »

Mixed bag so far for Sewell pro day

Mixed bag of sorts at Sewell pro day … Its been kind of a mixed bag for Oregon OT Penei Sewell at the Ducks’ pro day today. Accoring to reports from the Senior Bowl’s Jim Nagy, Sewell came in a tad shorter than expected at just under 6-5, 331 – he had been listed at 6-6 in the… Read More »

Okie State RB Hubbard sizzles

Cowboys’ RB Hubbard, OT Jenkins impress at OSU pro day … Oklahoma State RB Chuba Hubbard made something of a statement at the Cowboys’ pro day earlier. Hubbard, a Canadian who exploded for over 2,000 yards on the ground in 2019, but whose draft stock plummeted after an up-and-down season this past fall, ran an unofficial hand-timed 4.36… Read More »

Florida pro day

Apparently there are some fast players in the SEC. Who knew!! After LSU WRs Ja’Marr Chase and Terrace Marshall both clocked 40s in under 4.4 seconds, Florida’s Kyle Pitts and WR Kadarius Toney also posted excellent times. Pitts, who some teams reportedly have rated as the top non-QB prospect in this year’s draft, made his own case running… Read More »

Notre Dame pro day

The Irish had a ton of prospects for the 2021 draft at their pro day; the guy that most NFL teams came to see was versatile LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, who is generally considered to be a top 20 prospect for this year’s draft, although nobody is really sure what is his best position fit. In fact, Owusu-Koramoah is… Read More »

LSU pro day

LSU WR Ja’Marr Chase got today’s pro days sessions off to a great start with an elite performance at the Tigers’ on-campus workout. Chase measured in as a sculpted 6-0.5, 201-pounder and then ripped off leaps of 41-inches in the vertical and 11-0 in the LJ. He then posted a 4.38 40 clocking and was literally even quicker… Read More »

Texas A&M pro day

The Aggies had more than their share of players invited to this year’s non-combine – 8 in total – although only QB Kellen Mond would be considered to be more than a mid-to-late third day prospect. And while QBs like Mac Jones of Alabama and Ohio State’s Justin Fields were getting national attention, Mond did get in his… Read More »

Ohio State pro day

Ohio State QB Justin Fields had an excellent out at today’s pro day. Fields, who measured in at 6-3, 227 and ran a sizzling 4.44 40 with a 1.57 10-yard split, showed off with impressive arm strength and very nice touch, although of course he was throwing against. Still, the ball just popped out of his hand with… Read More »

Washington pro day

While Alabama and Ohio State were hogging the national pro day attention today, several Washington Huskies quietly went about their business posting solid numbers at their on-campus workout. Rising DT Levi Onwuzurike, for example, was a little smaller than perhaps NFL scouts were hoping at 6-2.7 and 290 pounds, but still has decent length with 33-inch arms and… Read More »

Louisville pro day

Louisville’s pro day last year was all about size, aka huge OT Mekhi Becton. This year, though, it was more about speed and skill. And there was plenty of the former at the Cardinals’ workout today. WR Dez Fitzpatrick, for example, the Card’s big play threat who averaged over 19 yards per catch this past season, also ran… Read More »

pro day potpourri

Pro day potpourri  … While we wait for today’s pro days, including ‘biggies’ at Alabama and Ohio State to get underway, a couple of follow-up notes from yesterday’s on-campus workouts. Most of the attention on Monday’s pro days, of course, was on the session at Miami where DEs Jaelin Phillips and Greg Rousseau worked out, but in fact… Read More »

Jags, Niners commit to QB picks

Jags, Niners commit to QB picks … Normally at this time of year just over a month to the draft, teams tend to be tight-lipped about their upcoming pick, even those teams with very high selections for which it seems pretty obvious who the pick is going to be. Not so much this year though. Jacksonville head coach… Read More »

Miami of Ohio pro day

Nice day for two-time all-MAC OT Tommy Doyle, who certainly looks the part at 6-8, 320 with 35-inch arms. Doyle also moved suprisingly well for such a big guy as he posted a 40-clocking in the mid-5.1 range, had a 32-inch vertical and a 9-3 LJ, while posting times of 4.61 seconds in the short shuttle and 7.57… Read More »

Louisiana pro day

Impressive day for Ragin’ Cajuns RB Elijah Mitchell as he was credited with an unofficial 4.32 40 time at the Louisiana pro day. And he backed that up with some other very athletic numbers including a 37.5-inch vertical and agility test times of 4.18 in the short shuttle and 6.87 in the 3-cone drill.

Duke pro day

Despite the fact that the Blue Devils were just 2-9 last fall, 31 of the NFL’s 32 team were at the Duke pro day. Many were there to see the Blue Devils edge-rushing combo of DEs Chris Rumph and Victor Dimukeje who combined to register 15.5 sacks between them last fall. Unfortunately, though, Rumph was unable to work… Read More »

Arizona State pro day

In the end, the only former Sun Devil to work out at the Arizona State pro day was veteran WR Frank Darby, a 3rd day prospect for the upcoming draft. And for the most part, Darby tested like an early-to-mid third day prospect as he measured in at a chiseled 6-1, 200, but with arms just under 32-inches… Read More »

North Carolina pro day

Nothing really spectacular at the UNC pro day, just a lot of guys checking off a lot of boxes. WR Dyami Brown, for example, ran pretty well, clocking times of 4.44 in the 40 and 6.90 in the three-cone drill, both of which would have been among the better figures at the 2020 combine; Brown’s short shuttle time… Read More »

Coastal Carolina pro day

The Chanticleers had a dream 11-1 season in which their only loss was in OT in their bowl game, while star DE Tarron Jackson had a dream season of his own in which he was the Sun Belt defensive player of the year, a consensus All-American, and a finalist for the prestigious Lombardi Award (along with Trevor Lawrence… Read More »

Boston College pro day

The key workouts at the BC were a little contradictory as both TE Hunter Long and LB Isaiah McDuffie timed well in the 40, whereas the rest of their workouts were kind of ‘meh’. Long, one of the top 2-3 prospects at the position for the upcoming draft, for example, was clocked in a very good 4.63 for… Read More »

South Dakota State pro day

South Dakota State WR Cade Johnson, a two-time FCS All-American who had 140 receptions for over 2,500 yards and 25 TDs over the past two seasons, was one of those small school stars NFL personnel people were eager to get a look at at their pro days. Unfortunately, Johnson came up a little short as in not very… Read More »

Georgia Southern pro day

The Eagles have an interesting second-tier edge rushing prospect in Ray Johnson, a 4-year starter who has been reasonably productive at Georgia Southern despite being somewhat miscast as an undersized 3-4 DE. Johnson measured in at 6-2, 260 at the Eagles pro day, but with reasonably long 33-inch arms. He also tested reasonably well, posting a 33-inch vertical,… Read More »
