Princeton

A baker’s dozen NFL teams showed up at the Princeton pro day where record-setting QB Chad Kanoff was the featured performer. And Kanoff didn’t disappoint as he completed 50 of 53 passes in a scripted workout. Kanoff measured in at 6-4, 220 and ran the 40 in 4.90 seconds. Kanoff still probably won’t be drafted but could be… Read More »

Sunday morning draft thots

The start of the new NFL football year is still four days, but there’s already a buzz growing that is likely going to have some major implications for the 2018 draft which is now barely 45 days away. And nobody was buzzing more over the past couple of days than Cleveland. Of course, nothing can be formally announced… Read More »

Rutgers

Not a whole lot to get excited about at the Rutgers pro day. NFL personnel people, though, were looking forward to seeing star WR/KR Janarion Grant run. Grant had emerged as one of the best return men in college football early in his career, but struggled in 2017 after suffering a knee injury. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear as… Read More »

Auburn

No surprise here, but there was a good crowd at the Auburn pro day. Most were there likely to watch RB Kerryon Johnson run the 40 after he opted not to run at the combine. Johnson’s pro day run was okay as he was timed unofficially in 4.54 seconds which would have been in the top ten at… Read More »

Washington State

Reportedly 27 teams had reps at the Washington State workout. Two-time All-America OG Cody O’Connell, who was a surprising non-combine invite, measured in at a mammouth 6-8, 352 and managed 28 reps in the bench press. Unfortunately, the big issue for O’Connell was well he moves and there isn’t much to report on his times at the workout.… Read More »

Colorado

There was a pretty good turnout at the Colorado pro day where 29 teams were represented including a full contingent from Denver including John Elway and head coach Vance Joseph. The star of the day for the Buffs was RB Phil Lindsay (no relation) who had an unofficial 40-clocking of under 4.40 seconds while managing 14 reps in… Read More »

Alabama

March 7 The annual pre-draft pro day schedule got underway with a bang earlier today with a workout at national champion Alabama. Needless to say all 32 teams were represented at the Tide workout with a total of 80 NFL personnel people in attendance. That included a half dozen General Managers including Bob Quinn of Detroit, Pittsburgh’s Kevin… Read More »

COMBINE Wrap-Up 2018

Bet at least a few of you wondered where I was during the Combine weekend. I would tell you I was indeed watching and thinking about what was going on in Indy. I have all too often made a comment on Twitter about what is happening only to have something happen to totally contradict what I have opined… Read More »

2018 Combine Review: Who Took advantage

Perhaps the #1 takeaway from this year’s scouting combine Indianapolis was that just about all the top prospects that did work out worked out very well. Of course, that starts all with Penn State RB Saquon Barkley, who came to Indianapolis as the consensus top prospect overall, but one not likely to be selected with the first pick… Read More »

2018 Scouting Combine: Saturday review

The clear winner of today’s passing drills was Josh Allen of Wyoming who showed off remarkable arm strength, along with the kind of touch that was often missing during his season with the Cowboys. On the other hand , it appears there were more mixed reviews for UCLA’s Josh Rosen. It was also not hard to be impressed… Read More »

2018 Scouting Combine: DL and LB weigh-in review

While most of the interest in the scouting combine in Indianapolis today was transfixed on the on-field workouts of the offensive linemen and running backs, there was actually a lot of other stuff going on including the bench press for the QBs and receivers as well as the weigh-in process for the defensive linemen and LBs. Fact is… Read More »

2018 Scouting Combine: OL and RB Bench Press Review

‘Checking off the boxes’ is what all the participants at the scouting combine are striving for. And so far, one of the guys who is doing just that is Notre Dame OG Quenton Nelson. UCLA stars ace combine tape sessions

UCLA stars ace combine tape sessions … There were no huge surprises at today’s measurement sessions for QBs and receivers at the scouting combine in Indianpolis, although it was a pretty good for the UCLA passing combination of QB Josh Rosen and WR Jordan Lasley. Here is the full report from today’s weigh-in sessions for QBs and receivers.

Highlights of 2018 Combine Weigh-ins: QBs and WRs

No great surprises at the weigh-in session for QBs earlier today. Southern Cal’s Sam Darnold did measure in at 6-3.5, about a half an inch shorter than listed in the USC program; however, that’s not considered to be a problem. Better news for Darnold is the fact that his hands measured in at close to 9.5” which is… Read More »
