Sources confirming Texans’ QB Watson has requested trade … Multiple credible sources are reporting today that disgruntled DeShaun Watson has indeed asked the Texans to trade him. Watson has made no bones about the fact he’s unhappy with the Texans, particularly the fact he found about the hiring of new G.M. Nick Caserio via social media; there were also plenty of reports about him wanting out of Houston, but to date he hadn’t said so himself publicly. Watson signed a new four-year, $156M contract extension with the Texans in September that included a no-trade clause giving him some leverage on where he could be dealt. At the same time, the feeling is that the Texans don’t want to trade Watson, who led the NFL in passing this past season and certainly don’t have to trade him. The Texans are also reportedly hoping that new head coach David Culley, who reportedly does have a positive relationship with Watson, can help the team repair their relationship with their star QB, but rumblings out of Watson’s camp in recent days who the new head coach was would no longer impact his ultimate decision. Certainly, if the Texans did decide to move Watson, they wouldn’t lack for suitors with as many as half the teams in the league looking at some questions at the position. However, it appears that the NY Jets and Miami are the two most likely landing spots for Watson if he is moved. Both have top 5 picks in this year’s draft with the Jets at #2 and Miami at #3, while both also have a second first round pick – #18 for the Dolphins and #23 for the Jets. Ironically, Miami originally acquired that #3 pick from Houston as part of the 2019 trade for OT Laremy Tunsil.
