Saints sign vet QB Dalton

Saints sign vet QB Dalton … New Orleans has confirmed they have signed veteran QB Andy Dalton to a 1-year deal to back-up Jameis Winston. While neither is a long-term solution for the Saints who are trying to replace Drew Brees, one wonders if the addition of Dalton reduces the chances that the Saints try to move up from the 18th pick in the opening round of next month’s draft to get one of the top QB prospects this year. Indeed, the Saints, who along with division rivals Atlanta and Carolina, were all in on the Deshaun Watson sweepstakes earlier this month and there had been speculation that if any team might shake up the early going this year by jumping into the top ten to leapfrog either or both the Panthers and Falcons, who pick 6th and 8th respectively, it would be New Orleans. Of course it is still possible that the Saints try and move up. It is also still possible, if not likely, that they take a QB, either at #18 or later in the draft, but it just feels the likelihood that they try to make a big splash by moving way up just went way down. Of course, teams like Seattle, Houston and Pittsburgh also still have major issues at QB and could ultimately opt to move up but to date there has been much less buzz about those teams being all that interested in that. But stay tuned!
