Tide pro day on tap … With the NFL’s annual meeting winding up tomorrow in South Florida it will be interesting to see how many of the league’s top execs skip out a little early and head over to Alabama to take in the Tide’s pro day on Wednesday. For those that do there will be stuff to see as star OT Evan Neal is one of several top Alabama prospects who did not work out at the combine. That includes WRs Jameson Williams and John Metchie who almost certainly will be on the sidelines tomorrow as they are both still rehabbing from serious late-season injuries. However, DT Phil Mathis, LB Chris Allen and CB Josh Jobe, who each has at least some second-day potential, should be participating as they also sat out the workout part of the combine. It will be Neal, though, is the big attraction as he battles with NC State’s Ickey Ekwonu for the #1 grade among offensive lineman. Of course, Neal, at 6-7, 337, is bigger than the 6-4, 310-pound Ekwonu, although they both have 34-inch arms, but the Wolfpack star set a high athletic bar at the combine where he ran a 4.93 40, had a 29-inch vertical and times of 4.73 and 7.82 in the short shuttle and 3-cone drills respectively.
In fact, it will be a rather busy day on the pro day trail with workouts scheduled at Baylor, Tennessee, Miami, Boise State and Colorado State among other stops. However, most of the top prospects at the latter schools worked out at the combine. The one exception maybe is Colorado State TE Trey McBride, arguably the top prospect at the position this year who did not.
