All quiet with dozen days to go until draft … Maybe its the fact its a holiday weekend, but its still awfully quiet around the NFL with just 12 days to go until the start of the 2017 draft. Indeed, normally on the second to last to weekend before the draft, the league would be buzzing with trade rumors, albeit most made up of smoke and rumors, and rumblings of players rising and falling. This weekend, though, almost nothing. One does keep hearing from sources around the league that one should not be surprised if the QBs go earlier than most people are projecting, but that’s pretty much what happens every year anyway. In terms of trade talk, you probably couldn’t get any takers on a bet that Cleveland ultimately holds onto the 12th pick overall; on the one hand, there are plenty of distant rumblings that the Browns could trade up back into the top ten in search of North Carolina QB Mitch Trubisky, but there doesn’t appear anything particularly imminent. At the same time, there has been speculation that any number of teams picking later than #12 could try and trade up with the Browns. Could Houston be after a QB at that spot or Philadelphia or Washington or Tampa Bay or Denver after Stanford RB Christian McCaffrey or … or … or. Again plenty of possibilities but nothing that appears overly serious at this time. There is also some thought that a player like Alabama DE Jonathan Allen could go later than expected; he’s a tweener who isn’t real explosive, but we’ve heard that before, both this year re Allen and last year regarding Joey Bosa so its probably best to believe it when it happens. Best advice appears maybe to enjoy one’s Easter dinner and come back on the 27th! Hang in there …
