Texans host top QB prospects … When talking about teams needing a QB, most of the focus has been on teams picking early in next week’s draft. However, in many ways, the team with the most immediate QB need in the league is Houston. Whereas teams like Cleveland, San Francisco and the Jets with major issues at QB aren’t going anywhere soon and can even afford to wait until next year to take one, the Texans are very much in a win-now mode, but have only QBs Tom Savage and Brandon Weeden on the roster after trading Brock Osweiler to Cleveland this off-season and neither of those two guys is likely going to lead anyone to the promised land. So its no surprise that Houston will have both Deshaun Watson of Clemson and Texas Tech’s Patrick Mahomes in for visits this week. However, the Texans have the 25th pick this year and its unlikely thst either of Mahomes or Watson will still be on the board at that spot; indeed, there’s a better than even chance that some of the second-tier QBs are off the board by that point meaning that if Houston wants a top QB prospect they may have to move way up close to the top 10 to get one. So far, there doesn’t seem to be anything imminent, but it is certainly a situation that bears watching as we head toward the 27th.
