As the QB turns

As the QB turns … One of the enduring story lines throughout this year’s darft process has been the question whether Dallas would be taking a young QB to groom to ultimately replace the soon-to-be 36-year-old incumbent starter Tony Romo. And that story was all over the place today. On the one hand Cowboys’ owner/GM Jerry Jones was… Read More »

OSU QB leaves combien early

Hammy forces OSU QB to leave combine early … For those that haven’t heard yet, former Ohio State QB Cardale Jones was forced to make an early exit from today’s on-field tests and positional drills at the scouting combine in Indianapolis after he pulled up with a hamstring injury running his second 40-yard dash. That was a bit… Read More »

Other than the fact that Will Fuller put up a great 40 time of 4.32, perhaps the storyline from this morning’s on-field workout for the receivers was how many didn’t run that well. Indeed, Fuller and TCU’s Kolby Listenbee (4.35) were the only receivers to clock under 4.4, while only two others – Cal’s Trevor Davis (4.42) and… Read More »

Second group of QBs all pretty much ran in the same 4.8-4.9 range including Carson Wentz at an unofficial hand-timed 4.78. And times foe the first group of WRs are in with Will Fuller clocking a 4.32 while Koldy Listenbee’s final time was 4.35.

The first group of WRs are running their 40s and at first blush one wonders if the wake-up guy overslept himself because some of the erly times were downright pedestrian with the first half dozen or so receivers struggling to just break 4.65. A real good time though for Notre Dame’s Will Fuller who had an unofficial hand-timed… Read More »

The first group of QBs ran their 40s if anyone really cared. Louisiana Tech’s Jeff Driskel was surprising quick with an unofficial hand-timed clocking of 4.56, while Western Kentucky’s Brandon Doughty was sun-dial slow at over 5,2 seconds. Meanwhile, you could throw a blanket over the rest of the 1st group of QBs who were all pretty much… Read More »

Ole Miss DT explains hotel fall

Ole Miss DT explains fall; implicates potential #1 pick … Needless to say when former Mississppi DT Robert Nkemdiche met with reporters at a combine interview earlier today there were plenty of questions about that infamous fall from a hotel window that left him hospitaized briefly, not to mention suspended from the Rebels Sugar Bowl win over Oklahoma… Read More »

The combine has posted the official 40 times for RBs which confirms that Georgia’s Keith Marshall had the fastest time at a very quick 4.31. Marshall, in fact, was the only back to break the 4.4 mark as San Jose State’s Tyler Ervin had the next best time at 4.41. Among the top backs, Ohio State’s Zeke Elliott… Read More »

Some interesting stuff from the measurement session for defensive linemen earlier today. Ohio State DE Joey Bosa and Oregon 5T DeForest Buckner, for example, who are both considered to be potential top 5 prospects for this year’s opening round both at least passed the eyeball test. Bosa measured in at 6-5, 269 with 33.5″ arms and 10-plus inch… Read More »

There was an upset of significant proportions when the RBs ran this afternoon as Alabama’s Derrick Henry actually timed a tad better (4.45) than Ohio State’s Zeke Elliott (4.46). That time is a major disappointment for Elliott who was hoping to get under 4.4. To be honest, though, Henry didn’t look as fast or smooth as Elliott, and… Read More »

Second group of offensive linemen have completed their first runs and it does not look like we are going to have any spectacular runs in the 4.7 or 4.8 range like we have seen over the past few years. Top unofficial hand-time clocking is the 4.92 posted by Indiana OT Jason Spriggs, the only OL to go under… Read More »

Better time for K-State OG Cody Whitehair, one of the top prospects at the position who ran an unofficial hand-timed 5-flat for the 40 after yesterday’s very disappointing 16 reps in the bench.

Interesting that NFL Network showed Notre Dame’s Ronnie Stanley running a so-so 5.26 hand-timed 40, but the NFL.com is showing him with a better time of 5.13. Stay tuned for an update

So-so run by Notre Dame OT Ronnie Stanley who only timed a 5.26 in the 40 with a 1.85 10-yard split. Meanwhile, Indiana’s Jason Spriggs continues to have a solid combine with a 4.92 unofficial 40 – the fastest so far among the OL – with a quickish 1.75 split.

Ole Miss OT Laremy Tunsil will not run today but will participate in positional drills

Nice run by Alabama C Ryan Kelly as he posts unofficial 5.05 40 with a 1.78 10-yard split.

The first group of offensive linemen have pretty much completed their 40-yard lumbers. The top unofficial times in the first group were posted by former UCLA Bruins Caleb Benenoch (4.97) and C Jake Brendel (4.99) along with Michigan State OT Jack Conklin (4.98). Other pretty good times from C Graham Glasgow (5.09), OT Darrell Greene (5.13), OT Le’Raven… Read More »

Pretty good time for Michigan State OT Jake Conklin who posts an unofficial 40 clocking of under 5.00 at 4.98 with a 1.75 10-yard split. That time could go up to the 5.05 range once the electronic timing is factored in but that’s still a good time for an OT. Not as good for Ohio State’s Taylor Decker… Read More »

LSU G/T gets OL 40s underway … And we are underway with the 40s for the offensive linemen at the scouting combine in Indianapolis. LSU G/T Vadal Alexander kicked it off with an OG-like 5.56 unofficial jand-timed clocking of 5.56 seconds with a 1.92 10-yard split.

First BP numbers kind of ‘meh’

Bench press results for OL kind of average … The offensive linemen, who get ready to run at the combine in just a few moments, were also the first group to do the bench press yesterday but the results were kind of ‘meh’. Arizona State OG Christian Westerman topped the field with 34 reps at 225 pounds, and… Read More »

Herd OT gets extra year … Marshall OT Clint Van Horn has been granted a 6th year of eligibility by the NCAA after he missed most of the 2015 season with a torn pectoral muscle. The 6-5, 325-pound Marshall had previously missed much of the 2011 season with other injuries. Van Horn figures to be a mid-to-late round… Read More »
