Titans looking at top prospects

March 28, 2016

Titans still looking at top prospects … One of the underlying dynamics of today’s pro day at Ole Miss was a whisper rafting around the league that Tennessee may not be totally locked in on OT Laremy Tunsil for the #1 pick in next month’s draft. That has been the consensus opinion of analysts around the league pretty much from the get-go that got a big boost when new Titans’ G.M. Jon Robinson talked early in his tenure in Tennessee about the success he had last year in Tampa Bay when the Buccaneers’ took a pair of offensive linemen immediately after selecting QB Jameis Winston with the #1 pick last year. Tennessee got a good look at Tunsil at Monday’s Ole Miss pro day as the Titans had a full contingent.  Robinson also had plenty of compliments about Tunsil after the workout; indeed, he has been widely quoted as saying in an NFL Network interview that Tunsil is ” … is long, he can cut grass with his feet … he’s strong … You see him block a lot of good football players. He’s a tough guy, he’s a big man, he’s hard to get around. He can really run. You can see him out on some of those space plays when he pulls and runs out on the screen game or he’s working to get a safety when a running back breaks a long run. It’s easy to evaluate how athletic he is.” However, Robinson also gave a little wink when he was asked whether he’d be going to the Florida State workout on Tuesday where DB Jalen Ramsey would be working out. He is! And just to complete the original thought, the buzz around the league is that the Titans are just may be taking a second or third longer look at the athletic Ramsey for that top pick. The other thing to remember is that the Titans already have one of the league’s better young LT’s in Taylor Lewan whom they selected in 2014 and it just may be overkill at the position to take what in effect will be a RT with the first pick overall. Especially when the rest of your roster looks more like Swiss cheese.
