Cards DE Fields staying put

January 7, 2016

Enigmatic Cards’ DE not leaving nest … As suggested by earlier reports, Louisville junior DE Devonte Fields has confirmed that he will be returning to school for his senior season next fall. Fields looked all the part of a future #1 pick after he tore up the Big XII as a freshman at TCU back in 2012 and was named the Defensive Newcomer of the Year in all college football. However, Fields’ career path has been anything but smooth since; he missed most of the 2013 season with a foot injury and then spent the 2014 year at an obscure community college after being booted from the TCU team for some serious off-field stuff. The 6-4, 245-pound Fields, who likely projects to a rush OLB in a 3-4 scheme at the next level, though, appears to have found a home at Louisville where he had 10.5 sacks and 22.5 total tackles for loss last fall.
