LSU looking at Fournette

November 10, 2015

LSU investigating star RB … LSU is reportedly investigating whether star sophomore RB Len Fournette is not breaking any NCAA rules regarding the sale of merchandise with his catchphrase – “BUGA Nation” – printed across it. The Fournette family allegedly received more than $20,000 in discounts from a so-called family business manager. And given that the NCAA does not allow student-athlete’s to cash in on their likeness or image, so the merchandise sales being driven by the popularity of LSU’s Heisman Trophy favorite is a reason to be concerned at LSU. So far, there is no indication Fournette took any money or received any incentives or benefits himself and the NCAA is not yet involved in any investigation at this time. Instead, LSU is doing the investigating and will report to the NCAA any potential violations they discover. As a true soph, Fournette is not eligible for the 2016 draft, but figures to be one of the top prospects in 2017. Indeed, there have already been some whispers – which the player denies – that Fournette could consider sitting out next season to avoid the potential of an injury. Stay tuned!
