Back to work on pro day schedule … The first full week on this year’s pro day schedule gets underway later this morning with on-campus workouts at Northwestern, Kansas State, and Wisconsin-Whitewater. The Northwestern pro day should attract plenty of attention with rising Wildcats’ G/T Rashawn Slater, a potential top 10 prospect this year, scheduled to work out. The actual on-field stuff, though, may be less important to pro scouts as what they really want to know about Slater is just how big and/or long he is actually. While he played OT at Northwestern Slater is only listed at 6-3, 305 on the Wildcats’ roster. And given the proclivity for college programs to add up to a couple of inches to a player’s actual height on their roster, there are concerns that Slater could actually come in closer to 6-2 with relatively short arms. There should also be a decent turnout at the Wisconsin-Whitewater workouts where teams will be checking out rising C/G Quinn Meinerz.
Meanwhile, other noteworthy workouts this week are at Clemson and Texas on Thursday and Oklahoma and North Dakota State on Friday. Of course, much of the drama for the Clemson pro day was lost when star QB Trevor Lawrence held a private workout late last month prior to undergoing surgery to repair his non-throwing shoulder. In fact, the ‘workout of the week’ will actually be at FCS North Dakota State where Bisons’ QB Trey Lance will be under the microscope. How big a microscope? Well, the NFL Network will be in Fargo with live coverage starting at Noon ET on Friday.
