Browns ‘to listen’ to offers for top pick … Not sure what it means, but Cleveland G.M. Sashi Brown indicated at his combine presser yesterday that the Browns are at least open to trading this year’s top pick at the 2017 draft. According to Browns, the Browns are “going to responsibly listen to any opportunities that are out there. I think we have to do that. It’s not a design of ours. We would have to wait and see what might come, and what player might be available there as we get through this process.” Of course, the Browns weren’t shy about moving down last year as they traded down from the #2 pick – to #8 – with Philadelphia and then from there to the 15th pick with Tennessee. That netted the Browns an extra first rounder this year, the 12th overall, from Philadelphia as well as other later extra picks. Unfortunately, it also helped the Browns net a 1-15 record this past fall. What Cleveland does with the #1 pick, though, could depend on whether they can acquire a veteran QB, like Jimmy Garoppolo from New England, using the 12th or other selections. There is also a question whether any other team would actually be willing to give up the package of picks necessary to pry the #1 pick loose as there really isn’t a ‘can’t miss’ type prospect in this draft. Stay tuned.
