Yes Virginia! There are still bowl games … Imagine our surprise to learn that even though there is now a full 12-team college football playoff there there are still 600 or so bowl games! We kid of course! For whatever reason they were never actually going anywhere. And of course the second and third rounds of the CFP playoffs will be played in what used to be the traditional January 1st bowls like the Rose Bowl. For the record, there are 36 ‘other’ bowls this year and they actually start with a couple this coming Saturday. There are even some potentially interesting ‘other’ bowls including Alabama-Michigan in an unpronounceable game in Orlando on December 31st, along with Iowa-Missouri in the Music City Bowl on the 30th; Texas A&M-USC in Las Vegas on the 27th; and Colorado-BYU in the Alamo Bowl on the 28th. The latter will be of interest as Buffs’ coach Deion Sanders has said star QB Shedeur Sanders, a candidate to be the #1 pick at the 2025 will play. Again, courtesy of ESPN, here is the complete bowl schedule. The real question for the other bowls, though, is will anyone else who matters play. In fact, we should start to hear as early as today who will and who won’t be playing in the other bowls. We should also start to hear, again as early as today, from 2025 prospects with remaining eligibility on whether or not they will actually be entering the draft. Stay tuned!
