WKY QB Zappe caps record season in bowl win … Western Kentucky QB Bailey Zappe concluded a record-setting season with a record-setting performance in today’s 59-38 win over Appalachian State in the Boca Raton Bowl earlier today. Zappe threw for over 400 yards and 6 TDs in today’s win giving him 5,977 yards and 62 touchdowns on the year. Both topped the previous FBS single-season marks of 5,833 yards set by B.J. Symons of Texas Tech in 2003 and the 60 TD passes thrown Joe Burrow in LSU’s national championship season in 2019. Despite the numbers, though, Zappe is still probably more a marginal draft prospect, although someone is likely going to give him a third-day call just to get him into camp to see what he can do. Zappe reads the field well and gets rid of the ball quickly, but doesn’t have a ton of arm strength which shows up when he tries to do downfield. For the record, though, he will have one more great chance to show off for pro scouts as he will be playing in next month’s Senior Bowl in Mobile.
