Witherspoon quick at special pro day run

Witherspoon quick at special pro day run … Pro scouts finally got a chance to see Illinois CB Devin Witherspoon run today at a private pro day type workout. Witherspoon, one of the top 2-3 prospects at the position for the upcoming draft, wasn’t able to participate at either the combine or his regular pro day because of a hamstring issue. According to NFL.com, Witherspoon clocked a 4.42 40 time today which if it holds is a pretty good time and should solidify his ranking. Problem is its hard to know with these kinds of reports what that time actually represents. Its unlikely that it is an electronic time which would be comparable to the numbers at the combine. More likely its a hand-held time which usually get rounded up a bit. Suffice it to say that Witherspoon likely ran under 4.5 but he also wasn’t super fast in the sub-4.4 range.  And just for comparison, Oregon’s Christian Gonzalez, whose generally considered to be the other top corner in this year’s draft, ran a 4.38 at the combine, while Joey Porter had a 4.46 clocking which was considered to be a little disappointing.
