Who to watch in college football: October 25th

October 23, 2025

#8 Mississippi at #13 Oklahoma; Noon ET; ABC: Saturday afternoon starts with an interesting match-up of top 15 SEC teams, both of which are trying to keep their CFP hopes alive. Its also a potentially very interesting match-up of the opposing QBs: the Rebs’ QB Trinidad Chambliss (#6, 6-0, 200) and OU’s John Mateer (#10, 6-1, 225). Chambliss is arguably the best player in college football whom the vast majority of the country has never heard of, much less seen play after he spent 4 years at DII Ferris State where, in fact, he barely played until last season when he led the Bulldogs to the division’s national championship, along the way earning DII All-America honors before transferring to Ole Miss this past winter. At Ole Miss he has emerged as one of the more exciting dual-threat QBs in the country, although at barely 6-feet even, he may be a better prospect for the Canadian league than the NFL. For his part, Mateer had emerged as a prime Heisman candidate with at least mid-first draft potential early in the season, but kind of dropped down the draft radar when he missed a couple of games with an arm injury and still hasn’t gotten back to where he was pre-injury. In fact, the players to watch in this game, at least for the upcoming draft, are probably Ole Miss DT Zxavian Harris (#51, 6-7, 330), a massive guy with some athleticism, who is starting to get some buzz from NFL personnel people and OU ER R Mason Thomas (#32, 6-2, 250).

#15 Missouri at #10 Vanderbilt; 3:30 PM ET; ABC: Despite losing to Alabama last week, Vanderbilt remains one of the best stories in college football this fall. And dual-threat QB Diego Pavia (#2, 6-0, 215) who is on pace to throw for over 3,000 yards and 30+ TDs this fall, while runing for another 700 yards, remains as one of the best individual stories in the game, although he’s probably more of a CFL candidate than an NFL prospect. Indeed, Vanderbilt’s lone top prospect is All-America TE Eli Stowers (#9, 6-4, 235), one of the top receiving threats in the country at the position.

In fact, the player in this game that ro scouts want to see is Missouri LT Cayden Green (#70, 6-5, 325), who is finally back in the lineup after missing much of the season to date with an undisclosed foot injury. When healthy, though, Green is a proven road-grader who is considered to be the top OG prospect for the upcoming draft as he likely lacks the length to stay outside at the next level, while fellow OT Keagen Trost (#79, 6-3, 320), a much-travelled 7-year veteran who has made stops at Morgan State, Indiana State and Wake Forest, could also get some looks, as may S Jalen Catalon (#6, 5-10, 200), another productive veteran who has been around including last year at UNLV when he posted 96 stops and 5 picks. The Tigers best prospects other than Green, though, are DEs Zion Young (#9, 6-5, 265) and Damon Wilson (#8, 6-4, 250).

#3 Texas A&M at #20 LSU; 7:30 PM ET; ABC: The Aggies have been quietly chugging along this fall and have worked their way up to #3 and have a number of top prospects although RB Le’Veon Moss (#8, 5-10, 210), arguably A&M’s top candidate for 2026, won’t play as he continues to be sidelined by an ankle injury. However, the Aggies will have several second-day type prospects including LB Taurean York (#21, 6-2, 250), OG Ar’maj Reed-Adams (#55, 6-4, 325), rising ER Cashius Howell (#9, 6-2, 250) and LT Trey Zuhn (#60, 6-5, 320), along with CBs Will Lee (#4, 6-0, 190) and Tyreek Chappell (#7, 5-11, 180).

In fact, the most interesting prospect in this game is LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier (#18, 6-1, 205) who came into the year rated as one of the top 2-3 passers in this year’s draft class and thought at the time to be was very much in the mix to be taken first overall. Nussmeier, though, hasn’t really stepped up this year, but there seems to be a growing recognition among scouts that he’s been banged up pretty much all year and has a good chance to rehab his grade during the pre-draft testing process. Meanwhile, other Tigers’ to watch include OLB Harold Perkins (#7, 6-1, 225), who was considered to be potential top 10 candidates for 2025 before missing most of the season with a torn ACL and rising CB Mansoor Delane (#4, 6-0, 190), both of whom have some late-first round potential.
