We are the champions!!! … Don’t want to date ourselves, but we are going 6 decades as really dedicated sports fans going all the way back to the 1957 World Series between the New York Yankees and the Milwaukee Braves, the first sporing event in which we really cared who won. Over the years, people have learned not the bother us on game day; we have pre-game rituals almost written in stone, we’ve been known to start pacing literally hours before game-time; pace throughout the game; and then often don’t sleep following the game. However, having one’s grandson as one of the goalies in the deciding game of the Eastern Ontario District Hockey League Minor Atom (9-year-olds) final series brought a whole new level of gut-wrenching anxiety! Yesterday, grandson Zach and his Ottawa Sting mates defeated Gloucester Rangers 3-1 to win the series 4-2 and win their first championship. The moment of victory. And gramps can breathe again!!
