Washcoms first to tag … Literally just hours after releasing QB Carson Wentz and saving over $26M against the cap, Washington has become the first team to use a tag as the Commanders have reportedly applied the franchise tag to star free agent DT Daron Payne. As a result, Payne is guaranteed will get almost $19M next fall if he plays on the tag. Payne can still negotiate with other teams, but any team signing him would owe Washington two first round draft picks.
