Ute QB dodges injury bullet; other college injury notes … Utah got some good news on the injury status on QB Travis Wilson after last night’s in-state derby 24-14 win over Utah State. Wilson spent the second half on the sidelines with his left arm/shoulder in a sling after taking a hard hit on a 38-yard run that set up a Ute TD earlier in the game, but further analysis today indicated that Wilson only suffered a sprained shoulder and could conceivably be back as early as next weekend. In the USU game, Wilson was replaced by former Oklahoma QB Kendall Thompson, while emerging Utah RB Devontae Booker had a solid game grinding out 120 yards on the ground, while adding another 61 on 6 pass receptions. Elsewhere, Wisconsin junior RB Corey Clement will reportedly not play in today’s game against Miami of Ohio because of a groin injury that was incurred in last week’s loss to Alabama. The better news for the Badgers is that veteran safety Michael Caputo, who missed much of the Alabama after taking a hit to the head, has been cleared to play. Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see if Auburn sophomore DE Carl Lawson plays against FCS Jacksonville State today. The Auburn coaches say Lawson, another emerging prospect for the for the 2016 draft if he opts to turn pro this winter, will be in uniform today, however, he was reportedly seen leaving practice last evening on crutches; Lawson sat out the first half of the Tigers’ season opening win over Louisville with a hip injury. Stay tuned
