Utah QB Rising knee worse than first reported; other QB updates … Star Utah QB Cam Rising, who has yet to play this fall, indicated during a local interview yesterday that the knee injury he suffered during last season’s Rose Bowl was more serious than has been reported to date. Rising tore his ACL during the bowl game that required surgery, but he indicated yesterday that the injury also involved tears to his meniscus, MPFL and MCL.Rising was actually cleared to practice at the start of the season, but has yet to be cleared to play and right now it does not appear as if there is a set schedule foe his return. Meanwhile, North Carolina State has benched QB Brennan Armstrong after a slow start to the season. The Wolfpack had had high hopes for Armstrong, who led the country in passing two years ago at Virginia, transferred to NC State this past winter, but has been underwhelming in his new digs completing less than 60% of his passes and throwing more picks (6) than TDs (5). It also hasn’t been a particularly successful transition for Phil Jurkovec who transferred from Boston College to Pittsburgh last winter; in fact, Jurkovec has been replaced as the Panthers’ starter and moved to TE. For the record, both Armstrong and Jurkovec had been considered to be late-round or premium free agent pro prospects.
