Upsets needed to change early selection order

January 9, 2022

Upsets needed to change early selection order … Where does the time go? The 2021 NFL regular season winds up today and for 18 teams its on to next year’s draft. In fact, the early selection order for the upcoming draft is pretty much set, although an upset or two today could cause a minor shuffling. Jacksonville will clinch the top pick for the second year in a row either with a loss today against Indianapolis or if Detroit loses at home to NFC leading Green Bay. And whatever the result of those two games, the Jags and Lions will have the first two picks in some order. Meanwhile, Houston, which currently sits on the 3rd pick overall, will be home to Tennessee, while the #4 NY Jets will be in tough at Buffalo which needs a win to clinch the AFC East. In fact, in normal times, the Giants, who would have picked 5th this week, would be the only team with a top 5 pick to be favored this week when they host Washington. However, these are not normal times as the Giants will be forced to start Jake Fromm, who has only played in two games in his career, at QB because of injuries at the position. We will have the full, final (at least for the 18 non-playoff teams) selection order updated after tonight’s final regular season game.
