Bucs take look at ‘other’ QB; Gator stars work out … Interesting day coming up on the pre-draft docket. Tampa Bay, which has the #1 pick overall with which they are expected to take Florida State QB Jameis Winston, will nonetheless continue the process of completing their due diligence as most of the Buccaneers’ senior personnel people will be in Eugene, Oregon later today for a private workout with Ducks’ QB Marcus Mariota. The same crowd for the Bucs then will be a little closer to home on Wednesday when they return to Tallahassee for a private work out with Winston. Meanwhile, while the full pro day schedule wound up last week, there are still a couple of laggards as Florida and Syracuse will have their on-campus workouts today. It will be an especially intriguing workout at Florida with OLB Dante Fowler, a top 5 prospect for this month’s draft, and rising OT D.J. Humphries set to participate. In fact, it will be a busy week for Fowler, who was in Tennessee on Monday for a visit with the Titans, while he is slated to visit Jacksonville later in the week. Tennessee and Jacksonville currently hold the second and third picks respectively. For the record, Tennessee also reportedly had Missouri OLB Shane Ray in for a visit, while Jacksonville will host a kind of who’s who of non-QB prospects later today with visits from Southern Cal DE Leonard Williams, OLBs Ray and Randy Gregory of Nebraska, and WRs Amari Cooper of Alabama and Louisville’s Devante Parker. Of note, is the fact that Ray and Gregory are still getting visits with teams with top 5 picks as both are thought to have slipped on draft boards around the league, Gregory after he reportedly tested positive for marijuana at the combine and Ray after a somewhat disappointing pro day last month. Of course, it is also very possible that Tennessee and Jacksonville, both of which are reportedly very open to trading down in this year’s opening round, could just be checking out guys like Ray and Gregory in case they move down. Have a great day!
