Tuesday buzz report

April 20, 2021

Tuesday buzz report … They are still at the talking stage, but it appears that there may be some genuine interest in trade between Atlanta and Denver involving a swap of the 4th and 9th picks in this year’s opening round. Indeed, there may have been some actual parameters discussed with Denver reportedly offering the 9th and 40th picks for #4, but Atlanta is reportedly holding out for a future #1 as part of the deal. If Atlanta did move down they could very well target a CB at that spot, either Patrick Surtain of Alabama or South Carolina’s Jaycee Horn. Meanwhile, Dallas has confirmed that they have received some calls about the 10th pick, while the Giants, who pick right after the Cowboys at #11 have sent out signals that they could move up, or more likely down. That would be the same Giants who have historically almost never moved their first round pick.

People around the league are also still trying to figure out what the heck San Francisco is going to do with the #3 pick. Clearly, the 49ers are going to take a QB after trading up from the 12th pick with Miami; and for weeks now the belief around the NFL has been that the 49ers would be taking Alabama QB Mac Jones at that spot. However, since trading up the 49ers have put an awful lot of due diligence into North Dakota State QB Trey Lance. Both head coach Kyle Shanahan and G.M. John Lynch were in Fargo yesterday for Lynch’s second pro day. In fact, Lynch’s pro day was run by QB-coach John Beck, who is reportedly close to Shanahan, and has been working with Lynch since the 49ers acquired the 3rd pick at their request. Curious! Stay tuned! Just nine days to go!
