Trade gives Dolphins premium pick lead

March 27, 2021

Trades move Dolphins up in total picks count … Because the major components changing hands in yesterday’s monster opening round deals involving Miami, San Francisco and Philadelphia were first round picks in 2022 and 2023, there wasn’t much change in the overall draft capital of the three teams. Once the smoke had cleared, Miami did add a 2021 3rd round pick from the 49ers that gives the Dolphins 10 total pick total picks this year, tying them with Dallas, Jacksonville, Green Bay, Minnesota and New England for the second biggest haul of picks this year. That’s behind Philadelphia which currently has the most picks in this year’s draft with 11. The Vikings had actually been tied with the Eagles with 11 picks, but they lost one when they acquired C Mason Cole from Arizona for a 6th rounder yesterday. At the same time, Atlanta, Cleveland, Denver, Tennessee, the NY Jets, and the LA Chargers have 9 picks each. At the other end of the spectrum, Seattle has just three picks, while Arizona, Detroit, Indianapolis, the LA Rams and NY Giants have 6 each. It should be noted, though, Miami still leads the league in first and second day picks with a total of 6 picks in the first three rounds. Meanwhile, Jacksonville and the Jets have 5 each, while no other team has more than 4. Of course, all this could change if there are further deals.
