Top prospect Williams struggles in SC loss to Irish … For those who missed it last evening, Southern Cal’s bubble burst with a disappointing 48-20 loss to Notre Dame in South Bend. It was also a particularly disappointing day for Trojans’ star QB Caleb Williams, the consensus favorite to be the first player selected at the 2024 draft, who was picked off three times in the loss as he completed just 23 of 37 passes for only 199 yards, the first time in over a year that he was under 200 yards in a game. In fact it was turnovers that doomed USC as they actually outgained the Irish but had 5 giveaways, but no takeaways. However, it doesn’t seem likely, at least at this point, that the outing against the Irish is going to have much of an impact on Williams’ ultimate draft grade, although it is something that at least bears watching as it is in fact the second straight somewhat subpar game for Williams who was held to just over 200 yards and 1 score in the Trojans previous game against Arizona.
