Top CBs sluggish in combine runs

Top CBs sluggish in combine  runs … We still have the second run to go and we will want to know what the actual official times, but unofficial times from the first round of 40s for the CBs was kind of disappointing. Cincinnati’s Sauce Gardner, who was trying to make the case to be a the #1 corner selected, had a rather pedestrian – at least for a top CB prospect – 40 clocking of 4.52 seconds, although he did better it to 4.47 on his second. In fact, Gardner never looked comfortable on either run as he false started on both and appeared to be pressing. And none of the other guys generally considered to be first or second day type prospects did a whole lot better. Kaiir Elam of Florida was timed in 4.47 seconds, while the figures were 4.46 for Washington’s Trent McDuffie, 4.55 for Roger McCreary of Auburn, and 4.57 for Washington’s Kyler Gordon. LSU’s Derek Stingley did not run as he continues to rehab from that Lisfranc foot injury he’s been dealing with since the fall. However, there were some excellent times turned by some of the lesser lights among the CBs highlighted by clockings of 4.30 and 4.31 clocking by UTSA’s Tariq Woolen, who we noted in the earlier report on the CB weigh-in, was one of the best looking corners, while Baylor’s Kalon Barnes blitzed a 4.29 on his second round. Other good times included 4.40s by Damarri Mathis of Pitt and Zyon McCollum of Sam Houston State and 4.41s by Alontae Taylor of Tenessee and Cobie Durant of South Carolina State.
