Tide, Sooner pro days

March 8, 2017

Tide, Sooners hilite early pro day sched … We noted when posting the original pro day schedule that the whole process gets off to cracking start with both Alabama and Oklahoma holding their on-campus workouts on the second day. PS that’s today. Unfortunately, there won’t be any national TV coverage of either workout, but the Alabama pro day will be on the SEC/ESPN Network beginning at Noon ET. Meanwhile, the OU pro day is being covered by Sooner Sports TV and will be streamed live (although it appears a subscription is necessary) via the Sooners official website. For the record, the Sooners website also provides some of the best pro day data of any program in the country. And while most of the top prospects on both teams already worked out at the combine, there is added interest in these two pro days because of Alabama LB Reuben Foster and Sooners’ RB Joe Mixon. Foster, potential top 5-10 prospect this coming April 27th actually won’t work out because of an injury, but will be talking to any NFL type that will listen after he was unceremoniously booted out of the combine last week for getting into a verbal altercation with some medical personnel at the hospital the combine uses for medical tests. Meanwhile, all eyes at Oklahoma will be on Sooners’ RB Joe Mixon. Mixon is considered to be one of the top backs in this year’s class, but was not allowed to participate in the combine because of an off-field domestic incident a couple of years back when he admittedly assaulted a woman. Like Alabama’s Foster, Mixon will spend a good part of his today trying to explain that issue, but there clearly are teams willing to listen. Mixon, for example, reportedly met with as many as four teams including Cleveland, Cincinnati, Detroit and New Orleans last evening. In fact, the Lions were one team that was not shy about complaining that Mixon wasn’t invited to the combine so teams could check him out there. Stay tuned!
