Tide QB Simpson enetrs draft

January 7, 2026

Tide QB Simpson enters draft … The first major QB domino for 2026 just fell as Alabama’s Ty Simpson announced that he will be foregoing his final year of eligibility and entering the upcoming draft. The big question re Simpson now is where does he fit in the 2026 draft class? Simpson was considered a rising star in the 2026 class earlier in the season with top 5-10 potential, but he struggled at times late in the season and saw his grade slip somewhat. In fact, the expectation was that Simpson, who waited three years for his chance to run the Alabama offence, would opt to stick with the program, but with a couple of intriguing young options waiting their turn (and hinting at a possible transfer) he may actually have gotten a nudge or two to move on. At the same time, Simpson did say earlier this month that he would only consider entering the draft if he got a first-round grade from the NFL’s special advisory committee. Right now, one gets the feeling that Simpson is going to fall in the 3-4 QB range with Oklahoma’s john Mateer (who also is yet to formally declare) in the latter part of the opening round area.
