Thursday nighter with Top 10 draft teams … For the record, this evening’s Thursday night game on FOX and the NFL Network has the NY Jets playing at Indianapolis in a match-up of teams that would have top 10 picks were the 2022 draft held this week. The 2-5 Jets, for example, would be picking somewhere in the 5-7 range if the draft were held this week, while the Colts, at 3-5, are sitting on the 9th pick. Who ultimately makes the Colts pick, though, is still to be determined as the selection will go to Philadelphia if QB Carson Wentz ends up playing in at least 75% of the Colts offensive snaps this fall (and by our estimation he’ll pass the likely 50% mark this evening.) The Eagles are actually also very much involved in what is shaping up as this week’s – and maybe this year’s – most impactful game on the draft when Houston plays at Miami in a 1 PM ET game on Sunday. The Eagles already do own Miami’s #1 pick this year as a result of a pre-draft trade in 2021 and the Dolphins and Texans, both at 1-7, are in a virtual statistical tie for the 2nd and third picks overall with the loser of Sunday’s game takes a ‘big’ step toward locking up one of this year’s early picks. Of course, Miami and Houston were also linked in lock step over the past few weeks as the two were believed to be deep in talks about a possible trade involving embattled Texans’ QB DeShaun Watson, the never did come to fruition, but remains a distinct possibility for the coming off-season. Have a great day!
