The curious case of JJ McCarthy … Of course, Michigan QB JJ McCarthy’s path to the 2024 draft has been well documented as he appears t be getting plenty of attention from teams picking early in the upcoming draft and needing help big-time at the position. Indeed, there have been at least some rumblings that McCarthy could be in the mix as high to be selected as the 2nd pick overall. What’s curious about all this is that McCarthy still doesn’t seem to be getting much respect from the professional draft analyst class. Indeed, we have scoured the internet and there isn’t one prominent draft analyst that ranks him higher than 14th, while the majority have him in the low 20s. Earlier today, for example, Dan Jeremiah, the NFL Network and NFL.com’s lead draft analyst, posted his latest top 50 ranking with all the usual suspects in the top 20 or so. But he still had McCarthy as the 20th best prospect overall which from where we sit is Kenny Pickett country. Of course, professional draft analysts don’t work for NFL teams and don’t actually make any picks, but we can’t recall a situation where virtually all the draft guys appear to be so out of step with what NFL teams appear to be thinking. What does it mean? Who knows! However, we’ll find out for sure on the 25th. But we’re still curious!
