Texans GM denies reports he’s leaving … The NFL was abuzz last week with multiple reports out of Houston that Texans’ GM Nick Caserio would be leaving the organization and returning to New England in an unspecified role. There were even several reports on who was expected to replace Caserio with the Texans. However, at a pre-draft presser earlier today Caserio emphatically denied those reports saying ‘I am not leaving!’ Caserio has been with the Texans the past two seasons and this off-season was instrumental in the hiring of DeMeco Ryans as the team’s new head coach replacing Lovie Smith.
In terms of the upcoming draft where the Texans have the 2nd and 12th picks overall in the opening round, Caserio confirmed that the Texans are at least taking calls about the 2nd pick and haven’t ruled out anything at this point. And that is sure to fuel speculation that the Texans might not in the end take a QB with the 2nd pick. As has previously been reported the Texans reportedly really like Alabama’s Bryce Young, who is expected to go #1 overall to Carolina next week, but aren’t necessarily all that impressed with the other options at the position, presumably including CJ Stroud of Ohio State who is usually pencilled into that #2. In fact, if the Texans are serious about passing on a QB at #2 and making the pick available they likely won’t lack for potential suitors. Stay tuned!
