Terp Cross blitzes safety 40; Irish’s Hamilton still slowish … Alas there was no reprieve as there were earlier today for several corners for Notre Dame’s Kyle Hamilton when the official 40 times for the safeties were confirmed. Hamilton, who is generally considered to be a top 5 type prospect for the upcoming draft was indeed clocked in 4.59 seconds in the 40. Not bad, but again, not elite. That said, let’s give Hamilton some credit just for running after he missed the second half of the season with a fractured foot. And while he didn’t necessarily run all that well he did have a 38-inch vertical and a 10-11 long jump which was the best among the safeties. At the same time, several other safeties did run really well starting with Maryland’s Nick Cross who was timed in 4.34; fr good measure he also posted a 37-inch vertical and a 10-10 long jump. Cross edged out Percy Butler of Louisiana, Toledo’s Tycen Anderson, and JT Woods of Baylor who had times of 4.36 seconds, while Lewis Cine of Georgia clocked a 4.37 and Dax Hill of Michigan a 4.38. In fact, someone may need to go down to Waco to test the water after both Woods and CB Kalon Barnes, who ran an incredible 4.23, starred at today’s workouts. For the record, Woods also had a 39.5-inch vertical to punctuate his day. Meanwhile, Bubba Bolden of Miami had a time of 4.47 seconds while Penn State’s Jaquan Brisker clocked in at 4.48. For the record, Jalen Pitre of Baylor, Verone McKinley of Oregon and Illinois’ Kerby Joseph did not run, although the latter did have an impressive 38.5-inch vertical.
