TE Bowers not running

March 1, 2024

UGA TE Bowers not running; UT’s Sanders slower than expected … Kind as of expected, star Georgia TE Brock Bowers opted not to run in this evening’s on-field workout for the position at the scouting combine in Indianapolis. That opened the door for Texas’ Ja’Tavion Sanders to maybe close the gap between himself and Bowers. However, Sanders did manage a 4.69 clocking in his second run after posting a sluggish 4.74 40 in his first attempt which was not was expected from a player thought to be an explosive big-play receiving threat at the position. In the end only 11 TEs are actually running this evening with somewhat unheralded Devin Culp of Washington posting the fastest time at 4.47, while Penn State’s Theo Johnson posted a 4.58 clocking and Jaheim Bell of South Carolina and Arizona’s Tanner McLachlan clocked 4.61 times. In a bit of an oddity, there were actually two Canadians running back-to-back for what we believe the first time ever at the combine as McLachlan ran right after fellow Canuck Johnson. To add to the irony there was actually a former hockey star participating in the TE workout tonight, but it wasn’t either Canadian but Kansas State’s Ben Sinnott who ultimately outgrew the sport! Here are the unofficial numbers for the TEs as we have them.
