Star SEC RB suspended; other college notes … How’s this for transparency! Star Kentucky RB Chris Rodriquez has apparently been suspended by the program, but the team won’t confirm it or for how long. However, Rodriquez is not on the Wildcats’ depth chart for their season opener against Miami of Ohio this weekend. Coach Mike Stoops did confirm that more than one player has received a multiple game suspension. That could also keep Rodriquez off the field the following weekend when Kentucky opens their SEC slate against Florida. Rodriquez plead guilty to charges of DWI and careless driving earlier this year and there are reports that there could be second incident. The 5-10, 225-pound Rodriquez was the second leading rusher in the SEC last fall when he piled up almost 1,400 yards on the ground. Meanwhile, Notre Dame C Jarrett Patterson, one of the top prospects at the position for the upcoming draft, is listed as questionable for Saturday’s huge season opener against Ohio State. Patterson has been practicing this week, but missed the last two weeks of fall camp because of a foot injury. Interesting that Patterson is listed on the Irish depth chart, but at OG for this week. At the same time, Alabama TE Cameron Latu is listed as day-to-day for the Tide’s season opener against Utah State this weekend. Latu missed all of fall camp with has been described as a minor knee injury, but is practicing this week. And across the state, veteran Auburn C Nick Brahms has opted to retire from football following a failed attempt to come back from a serious knee injury that required off-season surgery.
