Updated: Star DE Carter might not need foot surgery … There has been an update to the story regarding Penn State DE Abdul Carter, a potential #1 pick overall at the upcoming draft, who it was reported earlier today, might need foot surgery. The Carter camp is saying at this hour that after further tests were taken doctors are now saying that Carter will not need surgery and should be good to go at the Penn State pro day late in March. We should note, though, that this a report coming from Carter’s camp and has not been confirmed by independent league or team sources. It was reported earlier today that a stress fracture was discovered in one of Carter’s feet during routine medical tests at the scouting combine in Indianapolis yesterday and that Carter, his family and agents were consulting with doctors on the best course of action. The usual option is surgery which would involve the insertion of a screw into the foot. The recovery time for that surgery would be about eight weeks. Carter, who had already indicated he would not be working out with the DL at the combine later today because of a shoulder injury suffered during the CFP playoffs, could hold off on the surgery until after his pro day in late March or he could see if the issue would be resolved with rest. Whatever, it is not believed to be a serious injury, but it is an injury that could give some teams pause when making a very early pick.
