South QBs star in Senior Bowl rout

South QBs star in Senior Bowl rout … Heading into this week’s Senior Bowl in Mobile all the talk was about potential top 10 QBs Baker Mayfield of Oklahoma and Wyoming’s Josh Allen, both of whom suited up for the North team. However, when the smoke had cleared from today’s game it was South QBs Mike White and Kyle Lauletta who stole the show as they led the South to a 45-16 win. White, from Western Kentucky, looked relaxed and poised in the pocket as he completed 8 of 11 first half passes for 128 yards and a TD to lead the South to an early lead. Then Lauletta, from FCS Richmond, hit on 8 of 12 passes for 198 yards and three scores to earn the game’s MVP honors. Meanwhile, Allen overcame a slow start to lead the North to both its TDs as he completed 9 of 13 passes for 158 yards and a couple of scores. The big news for Mayfield was that he simply played as there was speculation that he wouldn’t play in order to return home to be with his ill mother. Mayfield played the first two series for the North and completed 3 of 7 passes for just 9 yards; he was also sacked once. Part of the problem for Mayfield, though, was that for the most part the North offensive line was being dominated by the South defense early on.It was also a big day for San Diego State RB Rashaad Penny, who had a quiet week of practice, but ran for 64 yards on 9 carries, including a 34-yard burst, while he also had a 73-yard TD pass reception. LSU WR D.J. Chark also earned some extra looks from NFL scouts after he caught 5 passes for 160 yards including a 75-yard scoring strike, while WR Ter’quan Smith of mythical national champion Central Florida also had 5 receptions for 79 yards and a TD. On the other side of the ball, South Carolina State LB Darius Leonard led the South defense with 14 tackles (which is a ton for an all-star game). At the same time, Hawaii SS Trayvon Henderson led the North with 10 stops, while Oklahoma ER Obo Okoronkwo and Ohio State’s Jalyn Holmes each had a couple of sacks.
