Solid pro day for Duke’s Jones

March 26, 2019

Solid pro day for Duke QB Jones … Whether it was enough to move him up draft boards around the NFL is still to be determined, but Duke QB Daniel Jones had a pretty good showing at today’s pro day workout. Jones reportedly completed 61 of the 64 passes he threw in the scripted workout (although we only saw the ball hit the ground twice and on both the receiver did get their hands on the ball.) Along the way, Jones showed good footwork, a quick easy release and excellent route anticipation. Jones might also have been the most impressive of this year’s top QB prospects when it came to overall accuracy as almost all of the throws were either on the numbers or placed where only the receiver would likely have a shot at the ball. Jones also showed that he could drive the ball at times, although it also appeared that on more than one deep route the receiver had to hold up and wait for the ball. In total, 31 of the league’s 32 teams had a rep at Duke today with the Giants once again the most prominent team in attendance. Indeed, in just about any shot of Duke head coach David Cutcliffe, Giants OC Mike Shula wasn’t far away. And while Giants head coach was in Phoenix at the league meetings today, he will reportedly be on hand when the Giants work Jones out privately later this week.
