Surgery reportedly goes well Irish LB Smith … Sports Illustrated is reporting that according to sources, the surgery to repair the knee of star Dame Notre junior OLB Jaylon Smith went about ‘as well as could be expected.’ Smith tore both the ACL and LCL is his knee early in Notre Dame’s Fiesta Bowl loss to Ohio State and there were concerns that there could also be nerve damage which would have complicated the issue. However Smith, who had been considered to be a top 5 prospect for the upcoming draft, still faces a long rehab which if history is any indication could take up to 9-12 months before he’s fit to play at 100%, although some players have come back sooner. Smith had been expected to enter this year’s draft, but now must make a decision whether its better to go ahead and enter the draft or return to school for his senior campaign and heal there.
