Redskins are no more

July 13, 2020

And the times they are a changin’: Redskins are no more … After years of adamantly refusing to even consider the idea, Washington announced this morning that the team will no longer be called the Redskins. In a formal statement, the team said owner Dan Snyder and head coach Ron Rivera are “working closely” to develop a new name and will announce the change in the near future. The franchise have been the Redskins since 1933 when they were playing in Boston as the Braves. The name has come under fire at times over the years as being blatantly racist and finally became a cropper in the new wave of tolerance that has emerged in the wake of George Floyd’s death.
