Randy Gregory

Randy Gregory, Nebraska, 6-6, 248, 4.70, JR …. Freakish edge rusher with top 5 potential whose pass rush skills have scouts really excited despite the fact he was limited by a leg issue through much of the first half of the season; originally signed with Purdue out of high school, but didn’t qualify and ended up going the junior college route before ending up at Nebraska where he had 10.5 sacks and 9 other tackles for loss last fall; natural pass rusher with an explosive get-off and elite closing speed; also has excellent lateral agility, long arms and strong hands, and a nice array of pass-rush moves, although he does need to learn how to redirect his charge better when his initial move is cut-off; for good measure he’s also got a good motor and is relentless getting after the QB; also appears to be a smart player who sets up rushes and appears very instinctive is choosing which style to play against different OTs; however, still needs to add some bulk as he looks more like a power forward – in fact, he did receive some interest from several D1 basketball programs coming out of high school – but has the frame to top out in the 255-265 range; in fact, is not all that stout at the point of attack and needs to work at keeping his pads low when defending run plays right at him; indeed, size issue could impact where he fits at the next level as he will need to bulk up to play as a 4-3 DE, but has had some experience as a 3-4 OLB which might be his optimum fit; also has had some durability issues as he missed to 2012 season with a broken leg and underwent arthroscopic surgery to have a knee cleaned out just before the start of the 2014 campaign. maps
