Raiders axe coach, GM in late-night blood letting … It was Hallowe’en, but the LA Raiders may have taken it to a bit of an extreme firing both head coach Josh McDaniels and GM Dave Zeigler overnight. The Raiders also named Antonio Pierce as interim head coach and Champ Kelly as interim General Manager. Pierce spent the past two seasons as the Raiders LB coach after working as associate head coach and defensive coordinator at Arizona State. Ironically, Pierce’s first game as Raiders’ head coach will be against the NY Giants, the team he had his greatest success with as an NFL LB. Meanwhile, Kelly is in his second season as assistant GM with the Raiders after having spent seven years with the Bears and eight with the Broncos in various capacities. Again, both are only currently interim hires and the Raiders have indicated that they will have a comprehensive search for a head coach and general manager once the season is complete.
