QBs, receivers hilite day 3 of combine workouts … The third day of on-field workouts at the scouting combine gets underway in just a few hours; remember the Saturday and Sunday sessions start at 1 PM ET rather than at 3. And it will be the QBs, WRs and RBs today, although the day loses much of its lustre as none of this year’s top three QBs – USC’s Caleb Williams, Drake Maye of North Carolina and LSU’s Jayden Daniels will be taking part in the passing drills. Meanwhile, the reviews for yesterday’s work out for the defensive backs and TEs are up here and here and here. Truth is, that a pretty good case can be made that yesterday’s workouts ranged from ‘meh’ to ‘blah’ as there really wasn’t too much to get excited by. Indeed, you know its something of an off-day when the preponderance of ‘winners’ are late second and third type prospects, while too many of the ‘losers’ or at least players that didn’t do much to help their respective grades were the highest rated guys. Indeed, the only top prospect yesterday to truly excel was Toledo CB Quinyon Mitchell who made a case to be the first corner off the board clocking a 4.33 40. Clemson’s Nate Wiggins, another top-rated CB, also ran superbly posting a sizzling 4.28 40, but for him there were almost as many questions asked when he measured in at a very skinny 6-1. 173. Of course, it also didn’t help that Georgia TE Brock Bowers, the highest rated prospect scheduled to work out yesterday opted to wait for his pro day, while several other top prospects such as Alabama CB Terrion Arnold (4.50 40); Miami S Kamren Kinchens (4.65 40) and Texas TE Ja’Tavion Sanders (4.69 40) failed to live up to expectations. May today be a better day!!
