As the QB turns … Several more items of potential interest from today’s team media moments at the scouting combine in Indianapolis related to the all-important QB position and what teams might or might not be thinking about the position and the 2015 draft. Clevelkand head coach Mike Pettine, for example, revealed that he had visited with enigmatic QB Johnny Manziel at the facility the 22nd pick at the 2014 draft is being treated for substance abuse. Pettine said that Manziel appears to be doing well and has the full support of the organization in his rehab, but that the team just can’t count on him for the upcoming season and will be exploring all other options including the draft and free agency. The Browns, who have the 12th and 19th picks in this year’s draft have been one team that has been believed to be interested in possibility moving up to acquire Oregon QB Marcus Mariota. Its a little more curious in St. Louis where Rams’ G.M. Les Snead repeated that the team is looking forward to having Sam Bradford back next year to see if the former #1 pick overall can finally stay healthy and live up to that promise, but then added that they have given Bradford permission to seek a trade. Hard to imagine the Rams getting value for the oft-injured Bradford, but in one of the softest QB markets in years who knows. And it may be even more curious in Chicago where both new head coach John Fox and G.M. Ryan Pace were given numerous opportunities at the Bears’ presser to give embattled QB Jay Cutler a vote of confidence, but both hedged their bets saying they were simply trying to gather information and get to know the guy. One might have assumed that if there was any possibility that Cutler would still be in Chicago this fall, that the Bears would hedge their bets and sings his praises at least until he wasn’t there any more. Stay tuned!
