QB Sanders to visit Browns, Titans … With the scouting combine in the books, the focus of the draft process shifts to the pro days. The other part of the equation at this time, though are the on-site visits. Every team is allowed to bring up to 30 prospects to their facility prior to the draft. And just who gets invited where can leave some clues as to what teams are looking for in the draft in terms of positions, while it can also shed some light on where different players are ranked as teams usually concentrate their limited visits on players they will be in position to draft. Again, its not a perfect science, but it is interesting that Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders’ first visit will be with Cleveland later this week, while he also be in Tennessee early next week. As we noted in a post yesterday, Sanders seems to be all over boards across the league, but if he is in fact visiting teams like the Titans and Browns, which have the first and second picks this year respectively, it suggests that he is at least still in consideration for one of those two picks. For the record, Sanders will also be visiting with the NY Giants, who have the 3rd pick, although its not clear whether a date has actually been set for that visit.
Also for the record, Tennessee will also have Cam Ward, the other top-rated QB in this year’s draft class, along with DE Abdul Carter and WR/CB Travis Hunter, the top two non-QB prospects, in for visits in the future. The Titans’ brain trust held several interviews over the weekend during which they indicated that all options are still on the table for the top pick including taking either one of the QBs or Carter or Hunter, or trading for more picks. And if for no other reason than keeping people guessing, the Titans have also scheduled visits with a half dozen or so other top prospects among their 30 allotted visits. The consensus around the league, at this time, though, is that the Titans sit tight and select Miami’s Ward with the #1 pick, because its what NFL teams do in their situation. Stay tuned though!!
