To QB or not to QB; Browns’ dilemma … Maybe he was just stating the obvious, but Cleveland head coach Hue Jackson acknowledged at his post-practice interview at the Senior Bowl in Mobile that the #1 priority of the Browns this off-season is to improve at QB. What Jackson wasn’t able to say though was when and how the Browns would address the issue. The 1-15 Browns of course have the #1 pick in this year’s draft and the dilemma for the team will be whether to take the best available player – likely either of DEs Myles Garrett of Texas A&M or Alabama’s Jonathan Allen – or reach for one of the top-rated QBs such as Clemson’s DeShaun Watson, Mitch Trubisky of North Carolina or Notre Dame’s DeShone Kizer. Interesting that Jackson also appeared to admit that “a good quarterback in the draft is more valuable than an elite player at any other position.” The Browns also have the 12th pick in this year’s opening round which they acquired from they acquired from Philadelphia at the 2016 draft which could also come into play for a young QB. In his interview, Jackson also wouldn’t rule out the possibility of trading the #1 overall pick, a sentiment repeated by Browns V.P. of Football Ops Sashi Brown in an unrelated interview, although that is likely primarily posturing in this the early part of the ‘smoke and mirrors’ season. The other option for the Browns is that they trade for a veteran QB with New England’s Jimmy Garrapolo who keps being mentioned as the most likely possible trade target.
