QB issues to impact race to top pick … Three of the NFL’s 5 teams with 2 losses apiece have, or will, make decisions on their QB situati0ns that could have a major impact on who ends up with the top picks at the 2025 draft. Jacksonville, which would have the #1 pick overall were the draft held this week, for example, has confirmed that Trevor Lawrence will not play this Sunday when the Jags quite literally go into the Lions’ den to face 8-1 Detroit. Lawrence missed the past couple of weeks after injuring his non-throwing shoulder in a loss to Philadelphia. The Jags indicate that Lawrence is ‘close’ to returning, but will give him an extra week to heal as Jacksonville has their bye next week. At the same time, while they still have yet to make a formal announcement, but it seems pretty obvious that Daniel Jones’ days as the Giants’ QB are done. The Giants, who are currently sitting on the 2nd pick, are on their bye this week, but it appears to be just a matter of time before they make the change; indeed, about the only question for the Giants is whether they opt to go with veteran back-up Drew Lock or 2nd year pro Tommy DeVito in the job. While Lock has far more experince, the betting here is that the Giants go with DeVito who did give them a real spark when he was forced into action as a rookie last fall. And Las Vegas, which would have the 5th pick were the draft held today, have confirmed that Gardner Minshew will get their starts going forward.
