QB Darnold to start for Jets this weekend

QB Darnold to start for Jets this weekend … Barring a late setback, the NY Jets are expected to have Sam Darnold back at QB when they play Miami on Sunday. The Jets, of course, are the NFL’s last remaining winless team and are on track to end up with the #1 pick at the 2021 draft. Darnold has missed a total of four games this year, including the past two, because of a sprained throwing shoulder. In his stead, the Jets have been starting veteran Joe Flacco, who actually posted better numbers than Darnold, but also wasn’t able to get a ‘W’ for the Jets. If, in fact, he’s healthy these final 6 games, it will be an audition of sorts for Darnold to possibly keep the job, as the Jets will almost surely get a shot at one of this year’s draft’s outstanding young QBs such as Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence or Justin Fields of Ohio State. The fact that the Jets will be making a change at QB also makes it three for three of the team’s currently sitting on the top 3 picks this year, making a change at the position this week. As reported earlier, Jacksonville, which would have the 2nd pick overall were the draft held this week, will start journeyman QB Mike Glennon against Cleveland on Sunday. Meanwhile, Cincinnati, which would have the 3rd pick, will start Brandon Allen in place of Joe Burrow, who is out for the year with a serious knee injury, when the Bengals host the Giants on Sunday. For the record, both started the current season on their respective team’s practice squad.
