QB Daniels eligible at UGA; cue QB controversy … Former Southern California QB J.T. Daniels announced today that he has been granted immediate eligibility by the NCAA, turning up the heat a notch on Georgia’s quarterback competition. Daniels, a former starter at USC who transferred to UGA this summer, announced via social media that the NCAA approved his special-circumstances waiver, and therefore he will be eligible to play for the Bulldogs right away. Daniels was a former 5-star recruit who started as a true freshman at USC in 2018, but suffered a season-ending torn ACL that required reconstruction surgery in the season-opener last fall. Daniels has been cleared for most physical work and likely would be able to play full-time in August. However, facing an uphill fight to reclaim the #1 job with the Trojans, Daniels transferred across the country to Georgia. Except, he’ll have to battle for the job at Georgia as Jamie Newman, an emerging prospect for the 2021 draft, also transferred to the program this off-season as a grad transfer from Wake Forest. In fact, there is already a bit of a whisper that Newman could look to transfer again if it looks like he’d have to split time this fall. Stay tuned.
