Pro day update

March 21, 2022

Pro day update … QB Kenny Pickett, of course, was the main focus of Pittsburgh’s pro day on Monday, but several other former Panthers had pretty good days. CB Damarri Mathis, for example, who opened some eyes with a 4.39 40 clocking at the combine, kept up the pace with an explosive 43.5-inch vertical and followed that up with an 11-inch-plus long jump. At the same time, TE Lucas Krull made a statement that maybe he should have been invited to the combine. Krull, who caught 38 passes this past season, measured in at a full-sized 6-6, 253 with 33.5-inch arms, had a 35-inch vertical, along with a 4.55 forty clocking and some quick times in the shuttle drills. LB John Petrishen, who had 74 tackles, including 4.5 sacks and 3 picks in his first year of extensive playing time this past fall, also had a really nice day. He’s a little undersized at 6.3, 227, but he posted an outstanding vertical of 38.5 inches, while running the 40 in 4.55 with some very quick shuttle times of his own including a sub-7-0 3-cone result. Fellow LB Phil Campbell, who is even smaller at 6-0.5, 220, was even faster over the 40 with a 4.51 clocking along with a33.5-inch vertical. Undersized was a bit of a theme at the Pitt pro day, but so was athleticism. DT Keyshon Camp, for example, only measured in at 6-3, 283, but ran a quick 4.68 40 while posting 27 reps in the BP … All but one team – the Super Bowl champion LA Rams who don’t have a top 100 pick this year – was at the Iowa pro day with most hoping to see C Tyler Linderbaum, who sat out the combine with a foot sprain, finally work out. Alas, Linderbaum is still rehabbing the foot and again did not participate, although he is hopeful of being able to workout at a private pro day closer to the draft … Up next: With Pickett pretty much holding serve on Monday, it will be the turn Liberty’s Malik Willis to workout at his pro day on Tuesday. which the NFL Network will cover beginning at 1 PM ET. Meanwhile, other key pro days on Tuesday include those at Texas A&M, Iowa State, Nebraska, Virginia Tech and Mississippi State. No doubt, pro scouts hope to see A&M RB Isaiah Spiller and TE Jalen Wydermyer, both of whom are considered to be among the top 2-3 guys at their respective positions, work out after they did not run at the combine.
